Introducing IDCheck

At KCT Credit Union, your security is our top priority.  As such, we're excited to inform you of an important change coming to Shared Branching.

Starting on May 1st, 2025, all Shared Branch users (who visit a location with an out-of-state ID) must verify their identity through IDCheck, a tool designed to help prevent account fraud.

What is IDCheck?

IDCheck is a new identity security and authentication tool, designed for the CO-Op Shared Branch Network, that helps credit unions to verify the identity of individuals during shared branching transactions. This tool is designed to enhance security and streamline identity verification for Shared Branching transactions when visiting another state, helping to keep your account safer from imposter fraud.

This new tool allows a teller to identify and authenticate members in real time, through a QR code and one-time passcode using multi-factor authentication.

How Does it Work?

1. Scan the IDCheck QR code in branch or visit verify.coop.org on your mobile device. Upon arrival at a Shared Branch location, you'll see the IDCheck QR code posted at the Teller line. Scan the QR code or visit verify.coop.org to start the process of verifying your identity.

2. Enter your Credit Union's name or choose from the drop-down list

3. Enter your Member Number and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number

4. Upload a photo of the front and back of your government issued ID

5. Take a selfie for identity verification. Your information can be stored for faster access in the future.

6. Receive a unique verification code (the code will be active for for 20 minutes). When verification is complete, you'll receive an access code. This code will let the credit union know your ID has been verified.

Note: if this is your first time going through this process, you'll see a pop-up on your screen, offering the option to be remembered for an expedited flow the next time you visit a Shared Branch location.

7. Present this code to the Teller to proceed with your Shared Branching transaction as normal.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Are all Credit Unions Required to use IDCheck?

Starting May 1st, 2025, all credit unions in the CO-Op Shared Branch network will be required to use IDCheck to try and verify the identities of individuals using an out-of-state ID attempting withdrawal transactions (including purchasing official checks). This requirement is aimed at addressing ID-based fraud.

How does a visiting member access IDCheck?

A visiting member can scan a QR code using their smart phone or smart device, or go to https://verify.coop.org/

Who needs to go through the IDCheck Process?

Any member looking to do a shared banking transaction with an out-of-state ID.

Can military IDs be used?

Unfortunately military IDs are not supported in IDCheck due to a federal regulation that does not allow federal IDs to be copied or photographed.

What happens if a member who was previously authenticated and opted-in to storing their information gets a new smartphone or smart device?

The member would need to go through the verification process again, as IDCheck associates the verification with the device.

What happens if a member who was previously authenticated and opted-in to storing their validation has an expired ID?

The member will need to go through the validation process again with an unexpired ID.
